RUN 21K
Note
The information on this page is not yet confirmed, and may be based on the previous years' edition.

The full coastal assault near low tide followed by a full work over on the complete track network is certainly enough to earn yourself a cool SPEIGHT'S at the end point. It's essentially two very different courses back to back resulting in a superb and quite unique superlong course in the XTERRA series.

Ok this is the business. Fullstop. The full coastal assault near low tide followed by a full work over on the complete track network is certainly enough to earn yourself a cool SPEIGHT'S at the end point. It's essentially two very different courses back to back resulting in a superb and quite unique superlong course in the XTERRA series.

From the base it's a touch of main road to split you up before hitting the Heritage Trail to get the blood flowing. Once your feet hit the sand our North Shore Coastal Challenge competitors will get a dose of nostalgia as you start to head over very similar terrain (albeit slightly further north). There may be some minor water interaction on this leg depending on the tide height.

Don't be fooled - this section will take a while and you won't be (or can't afford to be) moving at light speed. Some peculiar angled rock sections, moss and the odd loose one means strapping your ankles probably isn't a bad idea!

Once you run essentially past the event base (Te Haruhi Bay) you head up the trail at the end of the beach soaking up the breathtaking vistas at the top. You will fly over the hill to Okoromai Bay then soak up the full track network inside the park (lookout track, tiri tiri track). The 3 bush track sections, the grand views and a decent uphill with approx 5.5km to go will be remembered I'm sure!

Why is it more expensive to enter On The Day of the event?

It makes it challenging for us logistically when participant numbers are unknown, which is the reason many events don’t allow any late entries on the day. It costs us more to process manual entries, both in house and for our timing team, and we incur additional costs for having to allow “extras” of items such as race bibs + timing chips, catering etc for those additional unknown numbers.
We understand not everyone wants to commit their time too far in advance, so registrations are open online until 10am on the Friday before each event. This should give you plenty of time to sign up online once you’ve decided what to do with your weekend!

RULES & INFO

The information below may be from a previous edition of the event, and is subject to change.

COURSE SAFETY

ALL LONG AND SUPERLONG COMPETITORS WILL HAVE A LONG COASTAL SECTION at the start of this event. While it will be run near low tide, the terrain will be slippery and will require your full attention - we ask that you do not push the boundaries of what you feel comfortable with over this section! We strongly recommend that all competitors come to these events sensibly prepared as some of these courses are very tough and weather conditions can be extremely changeable.

We recommend running with a Hydration back pack loaded with 500ml - 1 litre of liquid, and other nutritional nibbles. You can expect to be away from base for a decent period of time at these events, and we can't always get aid stations to the points where you may expect them to be.

While event medics will be at each event (they will be stationed at the event base, start / finish point) and participants may encounter on course marshals with first aid on them, it also pays to be safety conscious and carry items like:

  • a basic first aid kit

  • a cell phone

  • a whistle

  • additional warm clothing

It's all about personal responsibility!

Drink Stations:

6.8k, 11k, 14.6k & 19.4k (with R-Line electrolyte drink, water, chips, pretzels & lollies)

*Please remember your own cup/bottle/hydration pack as there will be no disposable cups provided at drink stations

Toughness Factor: 6/10
