The bell will be waiting for elites to arrive at Olbersdorfer Lake when stop #5 of the World Cup storms into Saxony. This race is electric from the start, with a heart-pumping sand sprint straight into a washing machine of elbows and arms in the swim. Survive that, and racers are rewarded with a grueling vertical climb into the hinter hills as soon as they get on the bike. But what goes up must come down, and while the treacherous nail-biting bike descent is where heroes are made, it’s the first to ring the bell at the top of the hill on the run that gets the glory.

A race to the top on the slopes of Zittau

Only 6 days after the dust has settled in Prachatice the series heads to Zittau, Germany for another full-distance and short track double-header weekend. It’s the last of the European stops outside of the World Championship and perhaps the last chance for Euro racers to use the home-turf advantage to make a play for the top of the leaderboard. It's also the only double-feature stop where the short track race takes place before the full-distance tri.

With stop #4 and 5 being in such close proximity, it will be interesting to see how these races are used strategically. Who backs themselves for better results in Zittau and who has the strength to race both Belgium and Germany remains to be known, but from here only one stop remains in the USA before the big dance in Trentino, Italy.

Alizée Paties: Why Mindset Matters
Alizée Paties (FRA) claimed the first victory of the XTERRA World Cup at the APAC Championship and now leads the series at the top of the women’s leaderboard. “It was a surprise but not a surprise,” Paties said. In a perfectly executed performance she passed current world #1 Solenne Billouin on the run to take the tape by a convincing gap of over 2 minutes. Her choice to wear a CamelBak under the hot and humid conditions in Taiwan might have been the key to her victory but, perhaps, we are now seeing a new side to Paties.

Solenne Billouin: A Champion Rising
All eyes will be on current XTERRA World Champion Solenne Billouin as the XTERRA World Cup makes its debut in Taiwan. The race has brought out the top five world-ranked women and Billouin will no doubt be a key player. The young French athlete rose quickly through the ranks of XTERRA and, although she has reached the pinnacle of the sport, her limited experience makes her a unique World Champion. She is excited for new opportunities on the World Cup circuit, hungry for stronger competition, and looking to open her season with a victory.
